Compare two audio files with synchronized A/B playback

Listen to two mix versions from the same playback position to hear what changed. A/B comparison can help you judge a vocal adjustment, low-end balance, arrangement edit or processing chain without repeatedly finding the same moment in separate players.

  1. Export both versions from the same starting point in your DAW, including the same lead-in. The tool aligns file starts; it does not automatically align different performances or silence at the beginning.
  2. Choose a file for A and B. Each file can be mono or stereo WAV, MP3 or M4A, up to 25 MB and five minutes long.
  3. Press Play and switch between A and B without losing your place. Use the position control to revisit a section, pause to take a break, or stop to return to the beginning.
  4. Use average-level matching to reduce level differences, or listen at original levels when you want to hear the gain change itself.

What average-level matching does

A louder version can be easier to prefer during a quick comparison. This tool measures whole-file RMS energy and turns down the louder file to match the quieter one. Neither file is boosted or rewritten.

RMS matching is a listening aid, not perceptual LUFS matching. Different intros, arrangements or silent sections can affect the whole-file measurement. Use comparable exports and listen to the same passage when judging an edit.

Choose one thing to listen for

For a vocal change, check whether the words stay clear when the instrumental gets busy. For a compressor change, listen to the attack and movement of the sound. For a low-end edit, compare how the kick and bass sit together. Make one listening decision at a time; the tool does not choose a winner for you.

Audio comparison questions

Can I compare WAV, MP3 and M4A files?

Yes, when your browser supports the file’s codec. For a comparison focused on mix changes, export both versions in the same format so differences from lossy encoding do not distract from the edit.

What if the files have different lengths?

Playback stops at the end of the shorter file. Both files still need the same starting point: a longer lead-in on one version will leave the music out of sync.

Why is level matching unavailable for a silent file?

A silent file has no measurable signal energy to match. The tool leaves playback at original levels in that case. Check that both exports contain the audio you intended to compare.

Can I save or share a comparison?

This tool plays audio locally and does not upload files or store a comparison session. After reloading the page, choose your files again. Your original audio files remain unchanged.
